About

57.5% of Mediaplex/Showbox, Inc. is owned by food conglomerate Orion. Mediaplex/Showbox, Inc. initially consisted of Showbox, one of the largest film distribution companies in South Korea and Megabox, one of Korea's largest multiplex chains.

Mediaplex owned 72% of Showbox until December 2003. Showbox and Mediaplex then merged in December 2003.

Megabox was incorporated on November 16, 1999. On July 31, 2002 Loews Cineplex aquired 50% of Megabox. In 2006, Loews Cineplex disposed of its 50% stake to Standard Chartered Private Equity and Mediaplex. In July 2007, Mediaplex/Showbox sold Megabox to Australian company Macquarrie for $156.5 million.

Currently the Company has three main businesses: Korean movie business, which invests in producing Korean movies; movie distribution business, which distributes movies to theaters, and export business, which exports Korean movies to overseas markets.
