Plot
Inspired by the fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the film tells the story of a a young mermaid, Ponyo, who runs away from her home in the sea. She gets stranded on the shore and is rescued by Sosuke, a five-year-old boy who lives on a cliff. However, they must part ways because of Ponyo's father, Fujimoto.
Notes
Ponyo on the Cliff is the first film in four years from the Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki. The film eschews computer graphics altogether and instead uses primal hand-drawings. There were a record high 170,000 hand-drawn pictures to animate the characters and it took the one and a half years for the 70 staff members to draw.
