Plot
Joo Young-Soo (Kim Myung-Min) is a minister whose daughter (Kim So-Hyun) gets kidnapped. Eventually the minister loses his faith in God, quits the church and opens a business. 8 years later, Young-Soo's wife (Park Joo-Mee) still works feverishly to find their daughter and in the process becomes hospitalized. Then out of the blue, the abductor contacts Young-Soo and demands a ransom for his daughter. The former minister must make the most difficult of choices. He then sets out to rescue his daughter once and for all ...

Watched "Man of Vendetta" here in Daegu, South Korea. Your enjoyment of the movie will depend largely on your enthusiasm for Korean thrillers. Personally, I'm tired of the genre so I went into the screening a bit already jaded. The movie itself doesn't stand out from the crowded pack of already made Korean thrillers like "Voice of a Murderer," "Memories of Murder," and "World of Silence". Technically speaking, the movie is solid - good performances all around, script doesn't bore, and production value seems well done. Yet, for a movie made in such a crowded genre "decent" or "not bad" just doesn't cut it. At various times I did feel like I was watching the same thing over again - especially "Voice of a Murderer". If the genre was a comedy or a feel good movie the anticipation for experiencing certain emotions would be more agreeable, but for viewers that have already seen such movies before, why subject themselves to the same trauma? In fact I thought the movie felt downright exploitive in a way one man was going for movie awards by using the tired scheme of shock & the disturbing storyline of exploitation of children to garner attention. On the positive side, if you've never seen a Korean thriller before than you will probably liken "Man of Vendetta" to a scary rollercoaster ride.
