Plot

Well-meaning, but socially awkward, Sawako Kuronuma (Mikako Tabe) is nicknamed "Sadako" by her classmates because of her similar hair cut with the main character from the horror movie "Ringu". Her life then takes a turn when Shota Kazehaya (Haruma Miura), the most popular boy in school, falls for her ...

Sawako Kuronuma has a gloomy appearance and, because of this, is nicknamed "Sadako" by her peers. On the other hand, her personality is bright and caring. Her favorite motto is "do one good thing once a day," but she cares too much about others and cannot express her thoughts. This has made her somewhat of an outcast at school.

Shota Kazehaya (Haruma Miura) is classmates with Sawako. Unlike Sawako, he is outgoing and popular with all the students. He is even polite with Sawako, which makes Sawako respect him and even admire him.

Meanwhile, Kazehaya has special feelings towards Sawako. He notices the look of respect that Sawako gives to him and suppresses his own feelings for her. With help from Kazehaya, Sawako gets better at interacting with her classmates and even makes friends with Chizuru Yoshida (Misako Renbutsu) & Ayane Yano (Natsuna Watanabe ).

This is a happy moment for Sawako as she he has friends now that she can talk freely with. But, a strange rumor of her relationship with Chizuru dampens her joy. With the advice of Kazehaya, Sawako is able to maintain her friendships and, in fact, their friendship becomes stronger. Now being able to express her feelings to her friends, Sawako realizes she has special feelings for Kazehaya. During this time, a cute girl named Ume Kurumizawa (Mirei Kiritani), who has been friends with Kazehaya since middle school, appears in front of Sawako and confesses her feelings for Kazahaya and asks for her help ...

    Chix Chat On Film Says:

As if being a teenager isn’t hard enough, add to that looking like the lead character from a horror movie and having all the children around you be afraid of you. It doesn’t get much worse than that, no friends and no social life, make for a good reason to have angst. But Sawako Kuronuma (Mikako Tabe) was not filled with angst at all she was so introverted that it was at times downright annoying. I guess that with the arrogance and insolence of today’s adolescents that it seemed almost impossible for anyone to be as innocent and naïve as Sawako. The initial characterization was a bit over exaggerated but I felt it was done as such to make it blatantly obvious the progress that was made over time. With this film being a teen drama, I wasn’t sure what to expect beyond what I had read in the plot synopsis. I had hoped it would not be tragic like Romeo and Juliet, but as it progressed, it seemed that it may be more aligned with Cruel Intentions, turned out not so much. I felt like the test your courage situation that Sawako agreed to participate in and ultimately led to her, Chizuru Yoshida (Misako Renbutsu) and Ayane Yano (Natsuna Watanabe ) becoming friends was crueler than anything else that took place in the story. Although Ume Kurumizawa (Mirei Kiritani), had some intentions to snag the schools most popular guy Shota Kazehaya (Haruma Miura), she was never really cruel. Kurumi was about as close as we got to an actual antagonist, all the characters had a genuine niceness about them and were very likeable. Rather than a story that showcases how boys will be boys, like we have seen so many times before in stories like The Sandlot and Stand By Me, this one was totally girls will be girls. The way the rumors were spreading like wildfire was your typical high school girl cattiness. I kept thinking why not just change your hair Sawako, color it like Chizuru, Ayane and Kurumi, then you would not look just like Sadako! Maybe then you would stop scaring your classmates. I enjoyed this story immensely, it was a delightful coming of age story that makes it abundantly clear, teenagers worldwide experience some of the same growing pains. Donkey sang it best in Shrek, You Gotta Have Friends. This one gets a green light from me. – Emma Dinkins

i have to say good job but.. there's so many many mistakes in this film. i have been admiring kimi ni todoke since i read the manga then, i know that this film isn't too good to became the live-action.. (i'm sorry..)
kazehaya-- yeah he succsessfully played this character. but he is still cannot express anger face.
then sawako has a good job too but, her chemistry with kazehaya is somewhat low
    ryu, ayane, and chizuru mou..
ah, but tooru (in film) isn't that rude. easily he said to chizuru that he will marry haruka (his gf). hey, tooru isn't that rude, you know?
then when sawako was attacked by kazehaya's fans, that's no good, and no act! that should be the very touching part. but well? they (kazehaya's fans) are too nice. not as rude as in the anime/manga.
then background music was so less, i wasn't got carried away..
but i can say good job.. kimitodo had came to live-action. and thanks to this, i know who miura haruma is
    sorry for my harsh critism

Just watched it today and I would say that it was kinda low budgeted. I was really amazed by how Kazehaya's character was given justice. I also like the actors who played Ryu and Chizu. I wasn't convinced by the actress who played Sawako, maybe because of her facial features, which I think is very different from the anime. I was disappointed with the chosen actors for the roles of Pin and Kurumi. Pin shouldn't look OLD and his signature hair and body built were very important but was not captured. Kurumi should look like a DOLL and her hair should've been dyed light brown. Lastly, I was disappointed with the scene when Kazehaya pulled Sawako from talking to Ryu. They did it in a gym, on the stage, while in the anime, it was done outside and Ryu and Sawako were really close to each other. The intensity became weak in the movie. He pulled her very gently and they kinda jogged going outside.. He should've pulled her fast and ran.. Anyway, it was still entertaining.. Though not as entertaining as the original anime. OH and lastly, the actress who played Chizu was the ONLY pretty one.. :P

I'm amazed at how well suited everyone's looks for their roles was. My only question marks(looks wise) are Pin, Kazehaya, and Sawako but they were still very close to the mark. Yano, Chizu, Karumi, and Ryu were dead on. Everyone performed really well.

Eh the live was ok. Since they had to fit in first season of anime into just 2 hours many parts were cut and felt bit rushed. If this became a series of drama=probably would be better off, since it can portray anime/manga counter part better with ample time.

Well I don't agree that Mikako Tabe is the only actress that is perfect for the Sawako role. I still think Horikita Maki is the only actress who is perfect for this type of role and no other can top her. Plus she can be beautiful and cute at the same time. Maki-chan fan here. I wish to see Maki & Haruma in a drama/movie someday ^_^
