[edit] Plot
One night, the lights switch off simultaneously at 9:56 PM in Fortune Apartments. When a brutally murdered corpse is found the next day, Se-jin, who lives in the opposite side apartment, is the only witness to the heinous crime. But there is more death to come, and a terrible symmetry will emerge. One of the tenants who turn off the lights is found dead the following day. Se-jin watches these mysterious events take place and soon gets involved in the case to stop more deaths from occurring. The same apartment key is found on each of the victims but the mysterious key doesn’t turn any lock except for one apartment. Once Se-jin opens this door, she unleashes a terrifying secret.
[edit] Production Note
Of all the famous works of Internet comic book artist Kang Pool, a national sensation, THE APARTMENT was chosen to make the transition to the silver screen. The question as to who would fill the director’s chair became a hot-button issue, and everyone was curious as to who would bring this amazingly popular comic to the screen.
When Ahn Byung-ki was chosen to direct, everyone was in agreement that, as the master of Korean horror, only he could properly create a truly terrifying horror movie. Kang Pool always thought that there was a limit to the visual expression of horror through the original comic, but he considered it an honor to have Director Ahn Byung-ki recreate his work on film.
Anticipation over the movie continued unabated as Goh So-young was cast to play the lead. On top of her superb acting ability and beauty, Goh So-young is one of the most sought-after leading ladies in the Korean film industry. Her attachment to the project immediately elevated the quality of the production.
An exciting comic pored over by the entire Internet community, extraordinary direction by Korea’s master of horror and a first-rate leading lady, are all the more reason for you to experience this rollercoaster ride of abject terror.
